Having long irritated various attorney generals across the nation, Craigslist has announced they’re closing the “erotic services” section of their website and will create a new “adult” category where CL employees will review each submission prior to posting.
The new rules sound alot like the hooker ads that have been running forever in alternative weeklies like Westword, i.e. words are more carefully chosen and more euphemism are used. Really, who do we think is being fooled here?
Here’s how CL describes the new rules:
However, with respect to this new paid category for advertising by legal businesses, we will experiment with some of the methods traditionally employed in paid print classifieds.
In the meantime new posts have been halted in “erotic services” and existing posts will expire in 7 days till the new section is operational.
