Denver (semi-gay) blog roundup

  • MileHighGayGuy has a great response to Dana White, the president of the UFC, who recently said gay people would be welcomed into the league as both fighters and fans.  MHGG thanks White for his inclusiveness and then goes on to explain that gay people are already in the league in both capacities.  Full post here.
  • Westword names “Five Coloradans who should get the first batch of male birth-control meds.” Included in the very short list are Ted Haggard and [Colorado adjacent] Fred Phelps. Full list here.
  • Westword’s current cover story is on Angie Zapata. We’re all familiar with the details of the trial but this story looks at who Angie was as a person in a series of interviews with her friends and family. Full story here.
  • Did you know gay sex-advice columnist Dan Savage has a podcast? It’s an out-loud version of his sex advice column only he’s got more time to just rant, berate and hassle people which really is what he does best. Check it out here.

Two unique ways to help the community

(FIRST) Nic Garcia who writes for both gayzette and The Met (student weekly newspaper of the Metro State) is seeking

“gay Colorado couples who are legally married. If you know of any, please let me know and how to get in contact with them!”

If you’re a legally married couple or know some, Nic can be reached at nicholas.shane.garcia@gmail.com

(SECOND) The GLBT Center of Colorado is looking for photos of member of the GLBT community in action.  The center needs these to promote the “Healthy Living Area” at PrideFest.  Using photos from our own community is a great alternative to The Center having to buy expensive and generic stock photos so if you’re a photographer with images sitting on your computer this is a great way to help the community out!  More info about submitting photos on The Center’s website here. (scroll down to “Picture a Healthy Community”)

the mid-morning (Daniel slept in) news roundup

  • You know that fancy new restaurant, OLIVEA, that just opened up next to JR’s?  Well if you were curious about it Westword has blogged a write-up on it.  (it’s not a full fledged review by their food critic tho)
  • According to MileHighGayGuy today is the deadline to join DATE, the Denver Area (gay) Tennis Enthusiasts, if you want to be placed by level in the single and double tennis ladders. DATE’s website is here and the contact guy for ladders is Steve Kelliher at sgkelliher@gmail.com.  (Normally I verify basic info like today being the deadline, but DATE’s website calendar makes no mention of it so we’ll just trust MHGG on this one.)
  • A third grader from Montclair Elementary School (in Denver) by the name of Ethan is organizing a marriage equality rally on the west steps of the capitol on Saturday from noon to 1:30. Details on the event listing on Colorado Queer Straight Alliance’s website are still sketchy but I’ll keep y’all updated in case this story grows legs.

Update: CafeVivid also has an event listing for the 3rd grade marriage rally but it doesn’t indicate which, if any groups and politicians, are committed to attending.
