"Pride In The Park" up in FoCo this weekend!

Most of the events listed on this blog are in Denver but I wanted to let y’all know our friends up in Fort Collins are celebrating pride this weekend with Pride In The Park.  The festival is Saturday afternoon (June 6th) from 11:00am-5:00pm in Civic Center Park, Fort Collins.

Following the festival is the after-party at the Sunset Events Center where the Demented Divas will be performing.  The after party is from 6:00pm-1:00am and the Divas go on stage at 7:00.  Tickets for the after-party are $25 and include a drink.  If you just want to go for the dance portion after the show it’s only $10 (which also includes a drink).

Ya I realize that was alot of info so check out their website if you get confused.

Partners of gay and lesbian state employees to get benefits

capitol

Here’s another news story that slipped under my radar last week somehow. I’m a blogger, not a news wire so y’all can deal :)

Turns out Governor Ritter quietly signed Senate Bill 88 into law last week which allows gay and lesbian employees of the state to “share benefits with their partners in the way married couples already can.” According to the Denver Post even gay Representative Mark Ferrandino* didn’t know Ritter had signed the bill into law.

I have to say, with the recent expansion of trans-inclusive nondiscrimination laws in Colorado and now this we’re quietly becoming one of the most gay friendly states in the nation.

It’s back in less than a month. I’m so excited I don’t know what to do with myself. Different music, different themes, and different  guys. Trust me, the sun is coming out. I’ve got to figure out what I’m gonna wear immediately.

el potrero

I went to El Potrero for the first time this past saturday and, first of all, it was a great party. The music was really good starting as early as 9:30. At the time, I kept thinking, all they need now is people…. and a great lighting designer. By 10pm, strobes and lasers were flashing around. By 11, the place was packed. And mostly by beautiful latino ladies and gents (mostly gents) who I’d never seen before. The music was a mix of techno, merengue, hip hop, cumbia, and reggueton. The drinks were expensive and there was a cover but it was well worth a good 5 hour set. kudos to the DJ. this is definitely the latest addition to the urban circuit.

The restaurant/club doesn’t seem to have a big online presence. though they’ve always  got ad space in both the gay newspapers. So check out their february lineup here.

potrero

One of the interesting things I did notice about el potrero is that there were a lot of couples, distinguished from us lowly single folk by the holding holding of hands or waists or cheeks. Apparently they want people to know that “this one belongs to me.” People in couples didn’t seem to dance a lot outside of the couples. It was especially interesting considering at both JR’s and Tracks (where clientele seems to be overwhelmingly white. I’m just sayin…) couples aren’t so prevalent. And if they are, people aren’t being very open about it. hmmm…

ps… reading the gayzette online is like a dream. thank you technology for giving us the give of smut without killing trees

cycles of the circuit

Last night I got the chance to go to Kings & Queens for the second time. Yes, there is a wednesday night party for the gays and yes… it is good. First of all, the space is amazing. Apparently it’s the old Real World Denver house turned night-time hotspot. Second, I’ve heard two dj’s spin there already and they were both  good. That’s pretty much all you need to be added to the urban circuit. So. New party on wednesdays.

kings n queesn

kings n queens

The thing is, we’ve got to go to it. both times I went, there were less than 50 people. There are more of us out there than that, especially people looking for a dance floor. I’ve seen you. At the bar. Moving your hips to the beat of womanizer. Don’t act like you don’t want to dance.

Anyway, we’ve got to go to this party before it goes the way of sugar or wilde.

Speaking of the urban circuit. I heard from someone who heard from someone who heard from someone that eye candy at milk is no more. i hope that’s not the case and i will be investigating this weekend. if it’s true, though… another one bites the dust.
