The scandal that just won’t end – summary of this week’s events

daily show pageant

We’re going to start by following up on a story we have been deliberately ignoring the last three weeks. It all began when for some unexplained reason someone asked a beauty pageant contestant her views on gay marriage.

This is how Jon Stewart began The Daily Show last night beautifully summing up how long this is dragging out (full episode here).

Let me fill you in on all the latest developments.

On Monday CA pageant organizers named runner-up Tami Farrell “Beauty of California ambassador” to begin filling in for Carrie Prejean’s official duties.  Why the new made-up title you ask? CA pageant organizers want to drop Prejean’s bigoted ass but only one person has the power to strip her of her crown and that person is…

Donald Trump

I shit you not.

So of course everyone began to wonder what The Donald would do, so on Tuesday he held a press conference and said he was letting her keep her crown.

Now today Perez Hilton is reporting Shanna Moakler, co-executive director of the Miss California pageant has resigned.  Moakler issued a statement saying:

“Since the press conference [with Donald Trump] yesterday, I had a chance to think about what has taken place, and I feel that at this time it is in my best interest to resign from the Miss California USA organization,” states Shanna Moaker. “I can not with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it, or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth. I want to be a role model for young woman with high hopes of pageantry, but now feel it more important to be a role model for my children. I am sorry and hope I have not let any young supporters down but wish them the best of luck in fulfilling their dreams.”
